The index is weighted towards the media, mining as well as the personal and household goods industrial sectors. Together, these sectors account for 56% of the index’s market capitalization. Please refer to the FTSE Russell factsheet for a comparison of total returns over time, as at May 2017.
Alternatively, you could invest in the shares of JSE-listed companies. These include Naspers Ltd, a multinational internet and media group, mining giants Anglo American PLC and BHP Billiton PLC, as well as financial services firms such as Standard Bank Group and Barclays Africa Group Ltd.
