Market Sessions

Trading hours across financial centres (London time):

  • London trades from 7:00 am to 4:00pm GMT
  • New York trades from Noon to 9:00 pm GMT
  • Sydney trades from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am GMT
  • Tokyo trades from 11:00 pm to 8:00 am GMT

Trading hours across financial centres (New York time):

  • London trades from 3:00 am to 12:00 noon EST (EDT)
  • New York trades from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST (EDT)
  • Sydney trades from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am EST (EDT)
  • Tokyo trades from 7:00 pm to 4:00 am EST (EDT)

When trading sessions overlap

Foreign exchange markets are particularly active when sessions overlap across financial centres. For example, EUR/USD and GBP/USD volumes are greatest when London and New York are both open. Time your trading around those times to maximise liquidity and secure competitive spreads.

Overlap across financial centres (London time):

  • New York and London: 12:00 noon  to 4:00 pm GMT
  • Sydney and Tokyo: 11:00 pm to 6:00 am GMT
  • London and Tokyo: 7:00 am to 8:00am GMT

Overlap across financial centres (New York time):

  • New York and London: 8:00 am  to 12:00 noon EST (EDT)
  • Sydney and Tokyo: 7:00 pm to 2:00 am EST (EDT)
  • London and Tokyo: 3:00 am to 4:00am EST (EDT)
